NOTES FROM THE TABLE

A different kind of sequence

Here are the details for this mode. The tableau has seven columns. Four complete King-to-Ace runs clear the game. Scorpion on zxhyhb.com uses one 52-card deck with four suits. Moves build down in the same suit rather than allowing cross-suit destinations.

The initial seven columns

Here are the details for this mode. Each opening column contains seven cards for a total of 49 tableau cards. All cards in the last three columns are face up. Three cards remain in the stock. The first three cards in each of the first four columns are face down.

Build in the same suit

The following details apply here. A seven of hearts can land on an exposed eight of hearts. A moved group's leading card must land on a card exactly one rank higher in the same suit. A seven of hearts cannot land on an eight of spades. A King cannot land on another card because no higher rank exists.

Order within a group may vary

Keep these points in mind. The selected cards do not need to share a suit to travel together. Any face-up card can be selected together with every card beneath it. The leading selected card still has to meet the destination rule. The selected cards do not need to descend in rank to travel together.

Only Kings fill empty space

The following details apply here. An empty column is therefore less flexible than an empty column in ordinary Spider. An empty column accepts a King or a group led by a King. A group led by a lower rank cannot enter an empty column. Cards beneath a moved King do not need to be in sequence.

Reveal the hidden cards

The following details apply here. Undo restores the earlier hidden-card arrangement when the move is reversed. The next hidden card is revealed automatically. An exposed card can carry the cards beneath it when its own destination is legal. Removing all face-up cards above a hidden card turns that hidden card face up.

The final three cards

This Scorpion version permits its stock deal when columns are empty. There are no further stock cards after the three-card deal. The stock contains one final deal of three cards. Dealing places a face-up card on each of the first three columns.

Collect ordered runs

A few details help explain this feature. The game removes a qualifying run automatically from the bottom of a column. All thirteen cards in a collected run must be face up. Moving an unordered group does not make that group a completed sequence. A completed run must descend from King to Ace in one suit.

Practice Scorpion decisions

A few details help explain this feature. Hint lists legal choices without promising a winning continuation. Replay and Undo let you explore another approach to the same layout. A move can carry unwanted cards along with a useful leading card. Checking the whole moved group helps you anticipate what will become blocked.

Random Scorpion shuffles are not advertised as guaranteed winnable. Scorpion keeps a separate saved position when game saving is enabled.
